Activities in les deux alpes
Ice skating
For a relaxing evening of ice skating, Les Deux Alpes has an 1800m2 artificial, open air ice rink. Use of the rink is free for 6 day lift pass holders, but skate hire costs extra. Whether you want to learn a lutz, or just try some turns, the Les Deux Alpes ice skating rink has everything you need.
Swimming pool
Les Deux Alpes has a 25m heated outdoor swimming pool that is open from 2:30pm-7:30pm daily. There is also an accompanying Hammam, Jacuzzi and Sauna to soothe away the day’s aches and pains, or sweat out the vin chaud.
Health spa
As well as the swimming pool, there are a few dedicated spas in Les Deux Alpes which offer all kind of pampering opportunities, from manicures/pedicures, to massage and even hair removal, not forgetting the obligatory hammam, sauna and Jacuzzi. This can help relax you, and improve your skiing. Watch out for the sports massages though, they are not for the faint hearted!
Snowmobiling
Snowmobiling, or motoneige as the French call it, is an exhilarating experience, sharing similarities with motor biking or quad biking but on snow. The front wheel is instead two skis which steer the snowmobile in a similar manner to a motorbike, while the rear wheel is replaced with a caterpillar track to power the machine across powder and piste alike. 2 Alpes Motoneige gives you the opportunity to ride around the pistes of Les 2 Alpes after they have closed, or if there is some fresh snow, to go and get some powder in the sizeable backcountry area that Les Deux Alpes offers. Just don’t forget to bring warm clothing and gloves!
Bowling
In the place de Venosc at the bottom end of town is Les Deux Alpes’ bowling alley. The alley opens at 5pm and stays open right through until 2am, with 6 superb lanes ready for a few spares and strikes throughout the night. On bad weather days, they often open earlier as well.
Snow shoeing
Snow shoeing doesn’t require any ability on skis, just a reasonable level of fitness. The shoes simply attach to normal walking boots and allow you walk on top of deep snow in a far more efficient manner than normal walking. Guides 2 Alpes run snow shoeing hikes from Les Deux Alpes around the surrounding local area, with a quick drive to really get out of town before the walk begins. The hikes are well away from the noise of the piste and allow you really feel in touch with nature and the mountain. Trips can be taken for half a day, whole days or even longer, though you’ll probably want to get some more skiing done the next day. Guides 2 Alpes can offer various themed walks in daylight or moonlight.
Cinema
In case you missed that film at the cinema back in England a couple of months before your holiday, the cinema Le Slalom in Les Deux Alpes offers you a second chance to catch it on the big screen. Of course, this is the first time it has been shown in Les Deux Alpes, but it’s better late than never!
Paragliding
Paragliding, or parapente as the French call it, uses a large sail that looks similar to that used by skydivers, but is in fact a little larger, allowing the pilot to float on warm air thermals and travel great distances in the right conditions. Paragliders can also descend rapidly and perform impressive aerial manoeuvres. Paragliding in Les Duex Alpes is an amazing way to return home at the end of a great days skiing. Air 2 Alpes offer a range of flight options from €70
Speedriding
If paragliding sounds a little too subdued for your tastes, speedriding certainly won’t be. With speedriding, you are essentially skiing down the mountain, with a sail similar to that used in paragliding, but a little smaller, which just gives you extra lift that means you can drop off massive cliffs and become airborne for short periods of time when descending steep slopes. This looks like one or the most extreme sports on the mountain!
Rock climbing
Towards the opposite end of town from the Place de Venosc, is the outdoor climbing wall. This is free to use, but can get snow on the holds through most of the winter, so is only really worth bringing your climbing boots out for in March and April, or if visiting Les Deux Alpes during the summer.
